HOW TO KEEP BUGS AWAY

Are you finding an influx of pests entering your home? Here’s some tips to keep those pesky pests off your property.

  1. Ants are always on the hunt for food sources. Make sure to wipe down your counters after every meal.
  2. Bugs need a source of water, so you may more commonly find them in your kitchen or bathroom. Be sure to check for excess moisture to avoid creating their new watering hole.
  3. Other than food and water, bugs need shelter. Seal down any cracks and tears you may have in the foundation of your home. As well as inspect the weather stripping around your windows.
  4. Store food in tight containers.
  5. Sweep floors to pick up any crumbs that may have been dropped.
  6. Remove any plants that attract ants such as flowers and weeds.
  7. Remove any piles of lumber or debris.
  8. Avoid building up mulch beyond two inches. Ants and roaches love mulch! Its not uncommon to find roaches already in the mulch before laying it out.
  9. Regularly prune trees and shrubs to keep them from touching your home, at least 6 inches.
  10. Make sure to inspect suitcases after travel. This is the most common way to bring home bed bugs. They love to hitchhike!
  11. Be cautious of used furniture. Make sure to inspect them before bringing them into your home.
  12. Store trash outside.
  13. Turn the light off at night. Its no surprise that bugs are attracted to the light, and will make their way straight to your door. If you prefer to keep your lights on, try a lighter color bulb like white or yellow.
  14. Plant bug repelling herbs. Citronella, rosemary, lemon and sage have natural chemical components that are proven insect and pest irritants.
