THE SOURCE OF FLIES

When it comes to gnats and flies, they require a source for them to be present. Sources can range from old or rotting produce, flowers, trash or even dirty pipes. They like to breed and feed in filth including garbage, feces or spoiled food. Poor sanitation, ripped screens and unsealed cracks in windows and doors can lead to house fly and gnat infestations.

Sometimes they’ll be drain flies, as they like the sewage in the pipes. Its always good to regularly run your drains to avoid them getting dirty. If you do have drain flies its best to put Drano down your drains to help clean them out, and eliminate any eggs that may be inside.

Fruit flies usually ride into your home as eggs embedded on the surfaces of fruits and vegetables, where gnats generally enter homes in the soils of potted plants. Gnats like to hover in groups, whereas fruit flies only congregate together when lots of food sources are present, like a bowl of fruit. Most the time when you find house flies inside it is because they’re coming inside the structure.

First step in house fly control is exclusion and sanitation. You must remove the source for the flies to go away. Removing the source and or cleaning the drains will kill off and remove the breeding zones and eggs. After these measures you can use insecticides that come in residual forms, aerosols, fogging materials and baiting forms to kill off the adult flies. You can use fly traps and glue boards for flying adults.

To better control house flies make sure to have tight fitting lids for trash and to clean it out regularly. Drainage will aid in getting rid of any extra moisture, and make sure to have openings of buildings tightly screened. Now killing adult flies will reduce infestation but the elimination of the breeding areas is necessary for good house fly control management.
