HOW TO PREVENT RODENTS

It’s that time of year where rodents are going to be in abundance. Keep rodents away from your home with the following prevention tips:

• Remove food, water and items that provide shelter.
• Remove potential rodent nesting sites like piles of leaves and thick mulch.
• Have tight fitting lids on garbage containers.
• Clean out bird feeders or remove them all together.
• Seal holes inside and outside home.
• Turn compost piles to cover newly added food scraps.
• Install door sweeps on exterior doors and repair damaged screens.
• Screen vents and openings to chimneys.
• Seal cracks and holes on the outside of the home including areas where utilities and pipes enter the home, using caulk, steel wool or a combination of the both.
• Keep attics, basements and crawl spaces well ventilated and dry.
• Replace loose mortar and weather stripping around basement foundation and windows.
• Eliminate all moisture sites including leaking pipes and clogged drains that provide the perfect breeding site for pests.
• Put out rodent bait stations.
