Are Crickets Dangerous?

Although house crickets can bite, they usually are not strong enough to break the skin. The real danger of these pests is related to the diseases and parasites that they can carry, such as E. coli and salmonella. Crickets can also cause flu-like symptoms when humans come into contact with infected droppings. They love to chew through leaves, causing damage to indoor and outdoor foliage, and will even eat clothing, bedding, and wallpaper.

The most common cricket in Florida, these black insects are between .5 and 1.5 inches long.

These crickets may be reddish-brown or black in color and are only around .5 inches long.

Measuring 1 to 2 inches long, this species is light to dark brown and has a unique appearance with large black eyes and shovel-like front legs.

These brown crickets get their name from their humped back and measure between .5 and 1.5 inches long.
