5 BUGS THAT WANT TO SUCK YOUR BLOOD

Halloween is around the corner. With the weather cooling off, you’ll see some blood-sucking critters just in time for the scary festivities. In light of Halloween, we’re showing off Florida’s creepy blood-sucking critters:

Bed bug

When they say “don’t let the bed bugs bite”, they mean it literally. Mattresses, carpets, and cloth covered furniture all over Florida has the potential to be a home to these blood sucking bugs. If you find yourself waking up covered in bed bugs, it might be time to call in the professionals for a proper inspection and treatment plan.

Ticks

Ticks are found in the backyard, in the woods, or even on your pets. Ticks are designed as blood sucking and blood of an animal or human is crucial to their survival. Ticks are particularly serious because of the diseases they can transmit after biting a human. Some diseases linked to ticks are Colorado tick fever, mountain spotted fever, Lyme disease, and Q fever.

Fleas

Fleas can cause mayhem in no time. These bugs use their saliva to dissolve your skin to be able to suck your blood. Like bed bugs, Fleas are hard to control especially in South Florida. Fleas hang out in the same places ticks and bed bugs hide.

Triatomine bugs

The triatomine bugs also known as the kissing bug or cone-nosed bugs are known to snack on blood for survival like a vampire. These bugs are normally found outdoors in animal housing, under porches, or just beneath gravel. The CDC has found a correlation between a bite from a triatomine bug to Chagas disease. That’s a scary bug!
