THE IMPORTANCE OF BEES

In the world there are more honey bees than any other type of bee and pollinating insects. Considering that they’re the world’s most important pollinator of food crops. Did you know that 1/3 of the food that we consume each day relies on pollination mainly by bees? Wow that’s a lot.

Many domestic and imported fruits and vegetables require pollination, and 80% of U.S. crops are dependent on honey bees. Not only that but they also pollinate clover and alfalfa, which are fed to cattle. This means there are implications for the meat and dairy industry too.

Honey bees also play a significant role in other crops like cotton and flax. Bees wax is even used in cleaning and beauty products. Over the past 50 years, the number of crops that depend on pollinators has tripled. With all this in mind it is important that we have honey bees in our ecosystem.

Bees are vital for the preservation of ecological balance and biodiversity in nature. They protect and maintain ecosystems as well as animal and plant species, and contribute to genetic biotic diversity. Bees also act as indicators of the state of the environment. Their presence, absence or quantity tells us when somethings happening with the environment. By observing the development and health of bees it is possible to ascertain changes in the environment and implement the necessary precautionary measures in time.

Here at Palm Coast Pest Control we can treat for bees but we prefer that they get removed by a beekeeper since they are so important to our ecosystem. If you find bees on your property, we can recommend a bee removal specialist for you.
